Generic Lasix
Generic lasix also called as Furosemide is a loop diuretic (diuretics act on loop of Henle in kidney). Lasix used to treat excessive accumulation of fluid in the body, caused by cirrhosis, heart failure, nephritic syndrome, and chronic kidney failure. Lasix used to reduce the blood pressure, and remove excessive waste materials present in the body.
The tubules of the kidney filter out excessive salt (Sodium and chlorine), water, and other small molecules from the body. Before filtering the urine out of the body, the blood absorbs sodium, chlorine. Generic lasix prevents the absorption of sodium and chlorine by the blood. When the levels go down, more urination takes place. This process of urinating frequently is diuresis.
Oral dose of Lasix for adults is 20-60mg. Single dose immediately shows a change and if there is no change after 6-8 hours, patient must consume an extra dose. For children the starting oral dose is 2mg/kg. If desired effects not achieved after 6 hours give an extra dose of 1-2mg/kg to them.
Pregnant women should consume this medicine only under proper guidance of a physician. Without the consent of a doctor, they should avoid consuming the drug. For nursing mothers Lasix secretes in breast milk. Nursing mothers must avoid feeding breast milk to their babies during the dosage period because generic lasix is not good for baby health. Besides generic medications, Lasix is available in the form of oral solution and injection.
Some of the common side effects of Furosemide (generic lasix) are dehydration, low blood pressure, depletion of electrolytes (potassium, sodium).
Less common side effects caused by Furosemide are jaundice, tinnitus (ringing in ears), photophobia (sensitivity to light), dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and pancreatitis. Sometimes uric acid and sugar levels in the body rise because of Furosemide.
